Homeless Shopping Spree
The Homeless Shopping Spree is an Opie and Anthony Show event that has occurred 4 times. The event involved renting a charter bus and filling it with homeless men from the streets (and subway stations) of New York. The homeless people were each given $100, and let loose in an upscale mall in New Jersey or Long Island.
The second Homeless Shopping Spree became an instant classic, especially since a massive caravan of O&A fans followed the van in their cars to the mall, and chanted "Let the Homeless Shop" over and over again whenever a contestant was denied entry to a store.
During the 2006 XM spree, O&A wanted Homeless Andrew to be the star, but efforts to find him that day were unsuccessful. Fez also participated in the spree that year, as he pretty much looked homeless at the time.
The Homeless Shopping Spree was put on hold for a number of years, but in 2009, O&A announced they would be doing the Spree again in a New Jersey mall. There was also a suggestion to rename it the Tippy Tom Memorial Homeless Shopping Spree in honor of their late homeless friend, a star of previous sprees. Originally scheduled for December 17, it was reported live on the show on December 15 that the 2009 Homeless Shopping Spree was officially cancelled due to legal issues with the show and the mall. It was later decided to replace the Homeless Shopping Spree with a Homeless Talent Show, which took place on December 18.
